Spreading Smoky Delights: Momma's Barbecue Review

By: Kimberly Alonzo

This week, I tried Momma's Barbecue restaurant and bar in Louisville. But its tantalizing sauce flavors come from Ponca, Oklahoma.

Momma's Barbecue has long been a proud supporter of the Special Olympics, holding fundraising events and donating a portion of its proceeds to this worthy cause. With each meal enjoyed at Momma's, diners not only satisfy their cravings for delicious barbecue but also contribute to a greater good, making every bite taste that much sweeter.

Momma's dedication to making a difference doesn't stop there. The restaurant's appearances on popular television shows like "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" have not only brought national recognition but have also showcased Momma's commitment to preserving Southern culinary traditions and flavors.

And it's not just the critics and I who rave about Momma's Barbecue – it's the diners themselves.

"Momma's Barbecue's rates appear reasonable given the quality of their food, atmosphere, and service. Customers are more likely to perceive value in prices if they are offered high-quality products, properly prepared cuisine, and attentive service," Bellarmine junior Katie Smith said. The restaurant's locations in Hurstbourne and St. Matthews indicate popularity and success, which may explain their pricing policy for the area.

“ I expected to spend  $15 to $20 here but ended up spending $25 for a brisket sandwich and two sides,” Smith said.

Here are three testimonies from college students who enjoyed their meals at Momma's:

Bellarmine senior Dallas Miller: "I visited Momma's Barbecue with a group of friends, and we were blown away by the food. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the pulled pork was perfectly seasoned, and the sides fantastic. My favorite was mashed potatoes and gravy. Plus, knowing that our meal was supporting the Special Olympics made the experience even more fulfilling."

Bellarmine sophomore Sarah George: "Momma's Barbecue is now my go-to spot for a taste of home-cooked Southern goodness. And seeing Momma's featured on 'Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives' only confirmed what I already knew – this place is the real deal. I loved it even more when I tasted their Kansas City barbecue sauce."

Louisville junior Jordan Ingram: "I had heard so much about Momma's Barbecue, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I got a bowl of chili. It was huge. It also came with a big slice of cornbread that tasted sweet like cake. What really impressed me was Momma's commitment to supporting the Special Olympics. It's refreshing to see a restaurant that not only serves amazing food but also gives back to the community in such a meaningful way."

In my opinion, Momma’s Barbecue puts time into creating a variety of flavors and generosity infuses every aspect of the dining experience. Whether you're seeking a taste of Southern cuisine, supporting a charitable endeavor, or simply looking for a memorable meal, Momma's Barbecue promises to meet your needs just like mine. With its inviting atmosphere and delicious offerings, it's a place you'll want to visit again and again.
