The semester break is a time to get away from school and spend time with family. But some students are going on vacation with their families instead of returning to their hometowns.
Abby Nelson, Madyson Lira, Kelsey Hamm, Hollan Bates, Jacob Gruneisen and Lynsey Beahl are going on vacation this Christmas break.
Lira is going to Washington, D.C., and has fun things planned to do while she and her mother are there.
“We are going on a private tour of the Capitol, and we are going to the theatre where Abraham Lincoln was shot to watch a musical,” Lira said.
Nelson’s family lives in Lexington, Kentucky, but they are going to Missouri for Christmas to visit her other family members.
Nelson said: “We’re going to have three different Christmas parties with all sides of my family, some extended family. I don’t get to see them much, so it’s going to be fun.”
During the semester break, Hamm and her family are going to Florida for the first time during the holiday season.
“I’m going to Florida, St. Augustine from Dec. 23 to Dec. 30, and this is our first time going during Christmas,” Hamm said.
Bates is studying abroad over Christmas break.
“Over break I am going to Germany and Paris, France, and I’m studying abroad, and the class that I am taking is called ‘Cuisine and Culture,’” she said.
While she is there, she will try different foods and will journal about them and explain how she likes the food compared to American dishes.
Greisen is going to Miami to see his brother and sister-in-law but is going to make it a vacation as well.
“We are going to be going to the beach for a few days and traveling around and seeing what Miami has to offer,” he said.
Beahl is traveling to New York and Hawaii.
She said: “We leave the day after the semester ends for a few days for my Christmas present. As I am the only grandchild in the family, my grandma is taking me to New York and Hawaii.”
