SAC to host its first Murder Mystery Night

This week's Friday Night Live event will have attendees play the role of detectives working together to solve a murder mystery in Frazier Hall from 8 to 10 p.m.

Kaitlin Nally, the interim assistant director of the Student Activities Center, explained how she got the idea for Murder Mystery Night.

“I think that everyone's kind of obsessed with CSI or true crime podcasts or murder mystery right now,” Nally said. “So, I know that there are really big fans out there, and who doesn't want to be a detective for the night?”

This is the first event of its kind for Friday Night Live, but Nally said if this first event goes well, she has plans to expand the scope of Murder Mystery Night with future events.

“We want to, in the future, look into actually planning like a more structured murder mystery where like you RSVP for the event and you get assigned a role, and you come in costume,” Nally said.

For now, Nally’s goal is to create a quick turnaround event and gauge interest in the concept. Judging by what students are saying, interest in Murder Mystery Night is high.

Bellarmine student Celeste McFarren is a huge fan of the true crime genre, and when she saw Murder Mystery Night on Engage, she jumped on the opportunity to sign up.

“Me and my mom, ever since I was little when she would get home from work, we would just like sit down and watch shows like ‘Criminal Minds’ or ‘Castle’ or like stuff like that,” McFarren said. “So, we'd just be sitting there like watching the show and, like, trying to piece everything together ourselves, too, as the show was going on. And sometimes we'd get it right before they did. I think it's pretty cool.”

Students do not have to be true crime superfans to look forward to Murder Mystery Night.

Bellarmine student Yasemin Gechgil has attended previous Friday Night Live events and said: “I'm personally not very picky. I didn't know what it was going to be about beforehand. As opposed to just like sitting in my dorm, doing nothing, or doing homework. I just want something just to get out and have fun with my friends.”

Interested students who want to put their mystery-solving abilities to the test or just do something fun with friends this Friday can RSVP for Murder Mystery Night at engage.bellarmine.edu/events.
