Three, two, one... Happy New Year!
Setting a New Year’s resolution is the one of the most common traditions throughout the U.S. to bring in the new year, according to History.com
Students and faculty across BU’s campus set their own New Year’s resolutions, but some aren’t the typical resolutions.
For BU junior Katherine Barr, accomplishing her New Year’s resolution could be life-altering.
“My biggest New Year’s resolution right now is to get signed by a modeling and talent agency,” Barr said. “I chose this because I pursued my modeling career, I would say almost a year now, and I have done so many different things within the fashion and modeling industry.”
Gaining more experience and knowledge within an already familiar sport is what senior Timothy Dapore plans to accomplish in the new year.
“My New Year’s resolution is to get better at rock climbing. I’ve been stretching my toes every day and stretching out my hands, lifting a lot of weights, trying to get the grip strength up there so I can keep up with my buddies,” Dapore said.
At the top of communication professor Dr. Mike LaRocco’s list is completing “The Nine Room with My Friends,” an album he has been working on for years.
“My New Year’s resolution is to finish an album I've been working on. I have a music project that I’ve been working on for what seems like ages, and I’m really close to finishing writing it,” LaRocco said.
Instead of going into the new year hoping for the best, LaRocco developed a plan to hold himself accountable.
“I think I need to do something because I tend to procrastinate, or if I don’t have a set schedule or benchmarks or deadlines, I have trouble finishing. So, I feel like what I want to do at the very least is kind of set a deadline for each of the five songs,” LaRocco said.
While some students have resolutions based outside of school, senior Anna-Maria Beck said she plans to take what she's learned at BU and apply it to her resolution.
“My New Year's resolution is to be a bit better with my photography. I like to take pictures of people for my career, and I’m close to graduating, so I’m going to try to really help enhance that,” Beck said.
Beck said she got away from posting on her website (Birdie's Media) but plans to start posting again in the new year.
“I was hoping to work on my website that I already have up and help enhance that a bit. Also, maybe doing some job postings, offering my photography work,” Beck said.
