BU lacrosse having a record season

Bellarmine lacrosse started its season Feb. 4 playing No. 7 Duke University. The Knights lost 7-19 but didn’t give up there.

Senior midfielder Preston Winner said: “This season has been going really well. We are 9-4 and is something to be pretty proud of looking back on past seasons.”

The lacrosse team has had three hard-fought losses: to Duke, Mercer and Utah.

In the 2022 season, the team went 4-13, and this year is already an improvement with a current record of 11-5.

“This year has been really special, is a testament to the hard work that the guys on the team have put in and to the hard work that the coaches have done bringing in a lot of young guys to help build the program,” Winner said.

Overall, the program is going upward very quickly.

“This season has been different for us mostly because of our lifting schedule, junior midfielder Lukas Sinon said. “This year we started to lift off campus at Norton this year. The lifting has been more intense this year and focusing on individual growth as a strength perspective and mental health perspective.”

The team has traveled all over this season, going to games in New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Ohio and Missouri.

“Managing school and traveling is definitely tough, but for me I think it is important to capitalize on the bus time to making sure I use this time to get schoolwork done,” Sinon said.

Winner said: “I think we are at a pretty good spot right now. I think this season has been a great success relative to past years but none of that really matters until we get into post season and to the conference tournament.”

The lacrosse team’s next game is May 5th after beating Mercer to advance to the semifinals.
