Residence Life will hold Bellarmine’s annual music festival, Bellaroo, on April 26th from 5 to 10 p.m in Siena Complex-Arboreto with 15 Bellarmine students performing to showcase their musical talents.
“I’m performing my own music. I’m planning to sing parts of three songs both in Japanese and in English,” first-year student Seth Anderson said.
Anderson has studied Japanese on his own and said he hopes it will inspire others. “Being able to perform in both Japanese and English language will hopefully help others see how certain songs can still be heard beautifully in both languages,” he said.
Although Anderson has yet to perform in Bellaroo, he said he wants to perform again in the future. “I would like to later take advantage of playing in other music festivals and performing more original pieces,” he said.
Sophomore Brian Peterson or “Triple B” is no stranger to performing.
“Last year, I did some of what I’m doing this year. I’m performing some of my own original music. It’s a mix of pop, rap and hip-hop. Last year, I performed four songs, and this year I’m performing about eight,” he said.
Peterson said he signed up this year to showcase his talent and get more local presence. “I’m a rapper and a singer. I can kind of do everything,” he said. “Most of the time I produce my own music. I write it, I record it, and I’ll mix and master it. When I release a song, it’s from start to finish.
“This is my career goal. That’s why I’m going to Bellarmine for music technology to learn how to mix and how to produce better. I plan on completing my studio in my apartment so I can start doing sessions for people to pay for stuff, but in the end, I want this to be my career goal.”
Junior Adham Howaidy is performing in Bellaroo for the second time and said he plans to continue performing. “I play guitar and I love music. I love performing so I’m going to do it every year if I can,” he said.
“I started playing guitar four years ago. I’m self-taught. Unfortunately, I don’t have any original songs, but I do covers.”
Howaidy will play the electric guitar. “I’ll be performing songs from different bands. One that people will recognize really well is AC/DC,” said Howaidy, who is working with his brother on their first original song.
Along with musical performances, there will be other activities such as yard games and giveaways.
