Jalen Madison is the first Bellarmine part-time track and field coach to be promoted to a full-time coach for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Madison joined Bellarmine’s track and field program two years ago as the throwing coach for both teams, and although his time at Bellarmine has been brief, athletes say his impact has been great.
Bellarmine senior hurdler Jenna Walker said she believes Madison’s promotion is deserved due to his dedication to the program despite his part-time, event-specific position.
Bellarmine senior sprinter Katrina Kamarute said Madison cheers her on from the finish line. “No matter what I run, I know he is always going to be there for me,” she said.
Bellarmine alumnus shot put and discus thrower William Esenbock said, “He came in my junior year, and I already knew how to throw, so he made it his goal to keep me in shape and get better.”
Madison said that by becoming a full-time assistant he will be a resource for all athletes, not just the ones in his event group.
“Anybody who is affiliated with the program can count on me more now that I am able to put more time and effort into the program,” he said.
