Louisville’s self-proclaimed “Hometown Hero” Jack Harlow is set to release his sophomore album “Come Home the Kids Miss You” on May 6. Harlow released two promotional singles, “Nail Tech” and “First Class,” both of which have peaked in the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.
In a March 2022 Rolling Stone interview, Harlow said, he wanted to be the face of his generation. He said, “We need more people in my generation that are trying to be the best, and you can’t do that with just ear candy, vibe records.”
The excitement for Harlow’s album and interest in his new sound has overtaken social media, especially among his dedicated group of fans.
Senior communication major Hannah Lindon said she’s been a fan of Harlow’s music since 2018 and she’s loved watching him grow and progress as a rapper. She said she’s been obsessed with “First Class.”
“I love how his music and style are constantly evolving, and I can’t wait to see what level the next album brings him to,” she said.
Bellarmine alumna Yara Badwan said hearing new music is a special moment because "it's the first time you're listening to something new, but you're anticipating the future those songs and albums bring."
Badwan said, "In regards to Jack's new album, it's even more special because I grew up in the same city as him at the same time." She said she thinks "First Class" is a nice take on Fergie's "Glamorous" sample, but she's excited to see the hidden gems on the album.
Students spending the summer in the Louisville area can see Harlow debut his new songs at the Forecastle Festival at Waterfront Park on May 27. Tickets can be purchased here.
Badwan said she's excited to see Harlow headline Forecastle. She said, "I can't imagine the feeling of coming back and showing and celebrating with everyone what you've accomplished."
Grammy award-winning superstar Harry Styles broke the internet when he announced his third studio album, “Harry’s House,” set to be released on May 20. Styles announced the title of his album on March 23 with a video trailer and cover art. He headlined both weekends at Coachella 2022, and performed two new songs, “Boyfriends” and “Late Night Talking.”
Freshman political science and English double-major Emily Dewey believes in “Harry world domination,” and said she’s excited for “Harry’s House.”
Dewey said she’s followed Styles since his time in the boyband One Direction and seeing his progress as a solo artist makes her “feel like a proud mom.”
“He continues to do things no one expects, like creating entire websites to hype up his release and being secretive while doing so,” she said.
Styles released the promotional single, “As It Was” on April 1. Dewey said, “When ‘As It Was’ was released, I was so excited I cried in my car and still cannot stop listening to it, especially the bridge.”
Post Malone’s newest 14-track album, “twelve carat toothache,” will feature the most popular names in rap and R&B, including Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch and the Kid Laroi. Malone surprised fans with the album announcement earlier this year in an interview with Billboard.
The lead single for “twelve carat toothache” is “One Right Now,” an 80s-inspired collaboration with the Weeknd, which hints at the new sound Malone is exploring in his new album.
Sophomore communication major Emily Richardson said she’s “super excited” to hear Malone’s album, “especially because he’s had so much time to work on it.”
As an avid concert goer, Richardson said, “I love him so much as an artist, and especially a performing artist, so I’m super excited to see what he has planned tour and production-wise.”
Malone’s team hasn’t released an official date for the album, although it’s confirmed it will drop in May.
Country queen Miranda Lambert is releasing her new album, “Palomino,” on April 29, 2022. The album is expected to be the most soulful country album of the summer.
In an Instagram post showcasing the cover of the album, Lambert said, “This record takes you on a journey through songs. I hope y’all are ready to travel with us wandering spirits and meet some cool characters with great stories.”
Lambert released the motivational single “Strange” in March. The song previews the uplifting tone of “Palomino” with lyrics like, “Dance a hole in your shoes / Do anything to keep you sane / 'Cause times like these make me feel strange.”
In an Instagram post promoting “Strange,” Lambert said, “I hope this one makes y’all feel a little lighter on your feet, and is a reminder to take a breath when things are out of sorts.”
